The Cambridge Committee for Aerial Photography systematically surveyed the British Isles from the air in the years following the last war. The fact that this photography was in black-and-white is in fact a help here, as features on the ground are more easily visible on a black-and-white photograph, although they may be practically invisible at ground level.
