Auction Catalogue for the Sale on 26 June 1990 in London, introduction and 42 colour reproductions of the lithographs, details of the auction house and their terms and conditions, 60 pp in all, glazed pictorial boards, in very good condition, Sotheby’s 1990
27 x 20.7 cm, 470g, no ISBN
Chagall issued only 60 sets of these colour lithographs, together with 270 copies of the illustrations in book form. Therefore an auction catalogue is effectively the only way for you and me to see a complete set of the lithographs. This catalogue is a proper sewn hardback book.
The introduction is only two pages, so we have reproduced them below. The catalogue's cover is a reproduction of lithograph XXXIV.
Sotheby’s website does not allow you to search for auction results as far back as 1990, though we note from the introduction that their estimate was £1.2m - £1.4m, which would equate to just over £3m in today’s money.
