That is, the second-generation Jaguar XJ6, produced from 1987 to 1994. While it bore a resemblance to the original 1968 XJ6, it was in fact a completely new car, with no common parts at all.
Although during the car’s gestation period from 1980 Jaguar was owned by British Leyland, the company was run largely as a separate entity. The Jaguar engineers contrived to design the new car so that only an in-line engine would fit, thus avoiding the possible use of the Rover V8 engine (sniff!) – and causing considerable problems when a V12 version was produced in 1993 . . .
