The author is Director of the Foundation of Civic Museums in Venice. In 1997 he compiled a much larger book of the same name, published only in hardback and with much more text on the historical and political background to the city. That book went out of print and has never been reprinted, and booksellers now ask upwards of £120 for a good copy.
This paperback book, published by a different publisher, gives you many of the photographs from the earlier book, but with rather less text. In spite of the slightly strange language of the brief description from the book’s rear cover (below), the text and captions are translated into ‘proper’ English.
This book is also now out of print. Its published price in 2011 was €18.90, and inflation since then would make the current price €28.80, which perhaps explains why it is out of print.
The publisher used heavyweight glazed paper to better reproduce the colour photographs, and by the time the book is packed for the post it will weigh over 1kg. This means the book would cost a good deal to send abroad. If you are outside the U.K. and are thinking about buying it, please email us first on enquiries@monkshillbooks.co.uk and we will quote a price for postage.
