With the Words Printed for Expressive Singing, two books bound in one binding to enable the organist or pianist to use different tunes for the same psalm (see illustration), alphabetical index to tunes, classified index (“triumphant”, “mournful” etc.) to tunes, index of psalms and index of first line of every verse of psalms, complete and binding tight but very well-used and is sold only as a working copy (hopefully to someone who might use it for its original purpose!), bound in damp-crinkled dark brown leather, worm-holes in front cover, spine and rear cover partially split, T Nelson & Sons, London 1864

Although published in London, the preface states that “this edition of the Psalms has been compiled by a committee of ministers and laymen belonging to the different denominations in Scotland”, and the tunes part of this book is entitled “Scottish Psalmody”. At the top of the alphabetical index pages there is an inscription, in beautiful copper-plate handwriting, “J. Brown, Bow Street, Lisburn”, which is in Northern Ireland!
