The editor states that in the original 1922 edition of the book the watercolour drawings were reproduced in colours which were “primitive and artificially harsh” – you may see these on the website https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rossetti_and_His_Circle.  For this 1987 edition the editor had the originals, now in the Tate Gallery in London, photographed again, so the new edition reproduces the caricatures as Beerbohm intended them.
