SERBIAN FOLK SONGS, FAIRY TALES AND PROVERBS
Introduction, bibliography, appendix giving Serbian texts and melodies of three songs, 167 pp, original grey boards, somewhat rubbed and marked, spine darkened, contents good, Drane 1916
18.2 x 11.5 cm, 230g, no ISBN
What the title does not say is that there is no Serbian in the book, except in the short appendix – it is all translated into English. Pages 17-42 are an introduction, dealing with (amongst other things) the political importance of Serbian folk-songs, the music and the metre. The remainder consists of translations of songs and tales from Karadzic’s collections.
