The authors’ expedition failed to find any trace of the missing mini-submarine X5, but a later expedition for the BBC’s “Timewatch” TV programme found one (but not both) of what was almost certainly X5’s saddle-mines, and a wreck not far away which could have been X5 (see the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwtwo/tirpitz_heroes_01.shtml). Henty-Creer was recommended for a VC, but it has never been awarded.
