Motor Racing & Rallying
Very numerous b&w photo illustrations, circuit diagrams in text, 300 pp & 32 pp publisher’s catalogue, some foxing to margins of pages (and to pages adjacent to plates), but binding sound, original red cloth (no d/w), spine a trifle darkened, but a very good copy, Hutchinson, undated [but in fact 1936, as the publisher’s catalogue is for Autumn 1936]
21.5 x 13.4 cm, 670g, no ISBN
The book has, on the front free endpaper, a stamp (see picture below) of a literary agent, Charles Lavell, of Serjeant’s Inn, London. The title-page, the contents list and the list of illustrations (pages 3, 7 and 9) have been very neatly pasted-in. This is something I have never seen before in my years of bookselling, and leads me to believe that this is a final pre-production proof copy of the book. Possibly final amendments were needed to the pasted-in pages, and the publisher then sent the revised version to the agent. This also raises the possibility that Sir Malcolm may have seen and handled this copy before giving his final approval to publication.
This copy may well be unique.
