THE SHIP THAT CHANGED THE WORLD

The Escape of the ‘Goeben’ to the Dardanelles in 1914, b&w photo illustrations, maps on endpapers, short critical bibliography and index, 252 pp, blue boards in d/w, very slight foxing to endpapers and to closed edges of pages, otherwise in very good condition, Hodder & Stoughton 1985

23.3 x 15.2 cm, 700g, ISBN 0 34035 027 X

See the description (below) from the dustwrapper flap.  I have a tenuous family connection to this book, as Turkey’s entry into the First War led to the Gallipoli campaign in 1915.  My great-grandfather was engineer on the ocean-going salvage tug ‘Hibernia’, which was commandeered by the Navy and sent to Gallipoli.  It spent the campaign towing munitions barges through the Dardanelles “with  the Turks shelling us from both sides”!

The book was also published in the USA, but all editions are now long out of print.
