The book is the catalogue of the exhibition of the same name held in two locations in Denmark in 1981 and in York in 1982. However, unlike the usual dry exhibition catalogue, each section has an introduction from an expert in the field, so that the end result is more of a history book with detailed descriptions of the artefacts illustrated. The book only appears to have been published in paperback, and has never been reprinted. Please note that the book was also published in Danish, but this is the English language edition.
