Although built mainly for the BBC television series on Cabot, the replica “Matthew” was as near to the original as modern health & safety regulations would permit, and reached Newfoundland in the same amount of time as Cabot took in 1497. The replica is still active in Bristol, its predecessor’s original home port.
The book is a good introduction to the real modern discoverer of America (Columbus only discovered the West Indies, and the Vikings and the Irish reached Newfoundland before Cabot). See the description (below) from the dustwrapper flap.
